Another older drawing .. in fact I think this is about ten years old .. pencil on cartridge paper. It's the ancient egyptian Merymose who was the Visier to the Pharoah Amenhotep 111. It was drawn completely freehand and I think it is about twelve inches tall - I still have the original drawing - it's one that I will always keep. I like the timeless look in his eye - I think it's a rather serene portrait. I'd like to go and visit him in the museum - but I doubt I'll ever get to Egypt - I think he is still in Egypt! :)

I've been looking through some of my old stored images lately and came accross this one that I had forgotten about. I remember after I painted it years ago I almost threw it in the bin but there were a few things that I liked about it and being new to acrylics at the time I decided to keep it. I quite like the hair .. not sure about that nose :0 but here it is anyway. Jo Sonja acrylics on canvas. I've cropped it quite a bit.

Today I was determined to paint 'something' .. after being inactive for so long. I need more practice with acrylics but find them sooo frustrating to use in our Aussie summer especially when using them for portraiture and figure painting. So I may stick to other subjects for the time being. This is a small one 6" x 6" Jo Sonja acrylics on canvas - I have a container full of white artificial tulips that I used for the subject matter and I played around with the colours a bit. Then finally I used a bit of pencil to draw on some parts.

This small sketch was done some time ago when I was experimenting with Jo Sonja paint and the tecniques that could be achieved with it. The majority of this sketch was done using the 'dry brush' technique on canvas. The canvas was first gessoed and a coat of burnt umber applied - the painting was worked on top of this.
