Jane

I've had a bit of a slow week .. still recovering from my op and not doing any drawing or painting. So here is another old one .. it's a pastel on Fabriano Tiziano I think.

Your portrait painting is really awesome. I like the skin tone you make, the lips and nose is so clear and in good shape. I always facing problems when come to nose and lips.

Thank you for the positive comments. There are probably about 10 or 12 colours in that skin.

Totally awesome! Makes me want to get out my pastels which have been hiding in the closet for a long time. Your work is fab!

This is great! I started to get back into my drawing a few months ago after years of inactivity. I wonder if I have the wrong kind of pastels, they are hard chalk and I have 36 colors which seems to me is not enough and I get frustrated.

Hi Cynthia, I think this drawing is totally done in pastel pencil. It's an old one of mine. I must say I still rely on pastel pencils quite a bit .. being more of a draghtswoman lol :) than a painter. I often start the face with pastel pencil and then finish off with a few strokes of 'soft' pastel for highlights. It's often best to buy the pastels individually especially when it comes to colours to use for flesh.
You might need to buy some 'soft' pastels for finishing off. The hard ones are good to start the underdrawing. Hope this helps.
