Fashion

A fashionable lady from the catwalk! Pastel on Fabriano pastel paper. I would actually like to
take this out of the frame and tweak it a bit here and there. Maybe one day ....

Black pastel sketch

An old sketch in black pastel pencil on Fabriano pastel paper. I don't think I still have this drawing but I've considered printing it onto some decent paper and adding collage to it. One of these days when I feel like fiddling with it.

Another very old pastel drawing. Having a guess at the size .. approx 6" x 8" on Fabriano pastel paper.

Ribbons and Pearls

Another pastel ... it's easy to see which medium I favour isn't it? I have loads of pastels saved digitally and I think this one is framed and stacked away somewhere here. I guess the size is about 7" x 7" on Fabriano pastel paper. This one is five or six years old.

Lucinda

This is Lucinda .. a rather quick sketch in pastel. Most of my drawings are done from reference images - but I usually change them sooo much that they are unrecognisable from the original reference. I just use the initial reference as a jumping off point for inspiration and I change lots of things along the way. Most of them are drawn straight from the computer screen and usually late at night - strangely that is my most creative time of day! Oh! yes and the new creation is always given its own new name. This one is not quite so old as some of the others - about one year I think. The size is approx. 6" x8" - pastel pencil on Fabriano Pastel Paper.

Amelia

A pastel drawing done years ago .. I think I have already posted the initial drawing for this one. After the initial drawing I worked over the top with pastel and pastel pencil.

Red Tee Shirt

I did this painting yesterday ... I don't like it all that much but there are some things I do like about it. I'm trying to get used to using acrylics more often and experimenting with drawing onto the painting - so I quite like the negative spaces and the drawing on this one. I still need to experiment with the acrylic paint to become more familiar with it.
I was given some lovely synthetic brushes for Xmas and I tried some of them out on this and they were great especially one which is a round brush with a very fine point and very flexible white bristles. It was great for the drawing up process as it makes a nice thin line.

Blue Shawl

At last I have managed to get some painting practice in. I hope this will be a good omen for the new year .. Just fiddling around with some painting/drawing techniques with this one. I used a reference photo for this and embellished it a bit. Jo Sonja acrylics on canvas panel. I used a stamping technique to make the red beads and some coloured pencil on the hair and for the blue shawl. The coloured pencil does not photograph well in some areas .. eg. the face .. so next time I will just use paint on that area. I painted this in a monochrome sort of way to begin with by using just a mix of burnt umber/burnt sienna and white. Later I glazed some colour onto the face and clothing.

Here is a close up crop of the above painting.
