Strelitzia painting ..

I've decided to start uploading some of my Tafe assignments here as they do take up some of my time. Although they are mostly done at Tafe this one was finished during the holidays. I used Jo Sonja Acrylic Colour on canvas for this. Now .. there are probably some things that are a bit weird about this as I worked on it for three weeks at Tafe where the composition/lighting/shadows/flowers changed each week. So mostly the shadows are improvised. I also changed the shape of the small table from a square one to round to better suit the composition (I think). The whole painting has a stylised look to it. I tend to stylise lots of things in my work - that's just the way I am :)

Undecided ..

This is an unfinished sketch in Pastel pencil .. just one of my doodles .. was not sure what to do with it next. It could be interesting with some sort of background added .. hmmm still thinking .. so I put it into Photoshop and fiddled with the background. The coloured image is the Photoshopped result. Still not sure about it .. I think it's now too predictable. It will probably end up in the 'unfinished box'. Also it's larger than shown here .. she has her hands in her lap and that is a vase of flowers beside her on a little table. Oh well .. on to another ..

Red

Todays small pastel ... is approx 6 1/2" x 8" on Fabriano pastel paper. After a slow week I just had to rush to my pastels this afternoon and dash this one off. Phew! That's better .. I feel better now.

Something diffferent - Thumbnail sketch

I will be moving into our new house sometime this year (hopefully) .. and I have been thinking about art to put on the very large wall spaces in there. I want something in warm colours - not too overpowering and complicated .. but it will be quite large. So today I did this small pastel thumbnail to work things out. There is a group of she oaks at the back of our property .. of course they are green but I have changed the colour to suit the wall colours which are softly warm in colour. The painting will be probably started in Acrylics and then I hope to draw onto it with Oil Sticks or Oil Pastels to give it those interesting sort of marks. I'm still deciding if I will just do one large painting or two slightly smaller to make a diptych. I may do more thumbnails of this subject yet.
